A faucet typically consists of two main components: the
faucet and cartridge. The cartridge is a key part that controls the flow of water and enables you to regulate the temperature and flow rate.
Here's how the faucet and cartridge work together:
Faucet Body: The faucet body serves as the external structure of the faucet, which includes the spout, handles, and other visible parts. It is connected to the water supply lines beneath the sink.
Cartridge: The cartridge is the internal mechanism that sits inside the faucet body. It contains a series of seals, valves, and other components that control the water flow and temperature.
Mixing Hot and Cold Water: When you turn on the faucet handles, you're essentially adjusting the position of the cartridge. The cartridge has separate chambers for hot and cold water. By rotating the handles, you can control the amount of hot and cold water flowing into the mixing chamber within the cartridge.
Flow Control: The cartridge also regulates the flow rate of water. It typically has openings and channels that can be adjusted by moving the handles. When the handles are fully open, the water flows through unrestricted, providing maximum flow rate. Adjusting the handles partially restricts the flow and reduces the water volume.
Sealing Mechanism: Within the cartridge, there are rubber or ceramic seals that prevent water from leaking out when the faucet is turned off. These seals create a watertight seal to ensure water only flows when the handles are opened.
Maintenance and Repair: Over time, cartridges can wear out or develop leaks. If you experience dripping or leaking from your faucet, it may be necessary to replace the cartridge. Different faucet models and manufacturers may have specific cartridge designs, so it's important to consult the faucet's manual or contact the manufacturer for the appropriate replacement cartridge.
